Temporary Color Specialist – IMMEDIATE HIRE

IMMEDIATE HIRE – Chicago-area home improvement company seeks Temporary Color Specialist/Graphic Designer for roughly six months (April – September). Primary role as Color Specialist, secondary role as designer to support staff designers and art directors. Candidate should have experience with color trends and forecasting, as well as graphic design skills. Train with current Color Specialist, then fill role temporarily for roughly six months.
40 hours/week. Company is in northern suburbs, and moving to Chicago in early summer. No public transportation – must be able to drive. Current location is approximately 45 minutes from downtown Chicago.

Responsibilities:
As Color Specialist:
– Assist with minor adjustment with new color palettes and organize color assortments
with justification based on trend data, sales history & forecasts, competitive palettes, and aesthetic factors.
– Select colors for print and web products. Update sales materials for accuracy and with new colors.
– Help research and deliver color, design, market and lifestyle trends that impact the color trend 2011. Help segment 4-5 leading color trends and select 8 colors to represent the trend.
– Respond to customer service requests, providing 2-3 options that showcase products.
– Work with other departments and agencies to provide accurate materials and ideas for product features. This includes photos, visuals and stories to best showcase products. Answer requests from outside PR sources.
As Graphic Designer:
– Support three senior art directors and three staff designers as needed. Make artwork changes, find images for layouts, make mock-ups, create sell sheets and other collateral, own small projects from beginning to end.
– Pitch in with department needs as they arise.
Qualifications:
5+ years in trend forecasting or interior decorating, PLUS design or equivalent. Candidate must be proficient in both graphic design and color trends. Must have proven experience in color consultation for interior and exterior space or environmental or graphic design.
Must have understanding of brand identity, target marketing and merchandising related to color marketing. Demonstrated experience working from brand guide.
Candidate should be comfortable working in fast-paced department on a variety of projects, and able to prioritize and accomplish tasks on time with minimal supervision.
Bachelor of Arts in Advertising & Design, Visual Communication, or relevant area required.
Required Software Skills: demonstrable knowledge in Mac-based software (In-Design, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
